Youth Lagoon, the musical project of Trevor Powers, has just released a captivating new single titled “My Beautiful Girl.” This track, co-produced by Rodaidh McDonald, comes with a visually striking video directed by Regrets Only, showcasing a woman in front of a birthday cake.
The inspiration for “My Beautiful Girl” stems from a visit to Idaho City, a near-ghost town in western Idaho. Powers shared his experience of hiking through the local cemetery, known as ‘Boothill,’ where he discovered a gravestone that simply read, “My Beautiful Girl.” This poignant moment sparked a deep creative reflection for Powers, leading him to compose this touching song.
“My Beautiful Girl” marks the third single released by Youth Lagoon this year, following previous hits “Football” and “Lucy Takes a Picture,” all co-produced with McDonald. The latest album, Heaven Is a Junkyard, debuted in 2023 after an eight-year hiatus, showcasing the evolution of Youth Lagoon’s unique sound.
