The media team of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has confirmed that he attended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office. The team stated that Bello decided to honor the invitation after consulting with his legal advisors and political associates.
In contrast, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, refuted claims that the former governor was in their custody, asserting that Bello is still wanted for questioning.
However, Bello’s media representative, Ohiare Michael, clarified that Bello was indeed present at the EFCC office, accompanied by his successor, Usman Ododo. Michael emphasized that Bello was not interrogated during his visit and was informed that he was free to leave.
Michael remarked, “Earlier today, we reported the voluntary visit of former Governor Yahaya Bello to the EFCC office to honor the Commission’s invitation. We reiterated the former governor’s respect for the rule of law and his commitment to due process.”
He further noted, “The EFCC did not interrogate him, and officials indicated he could depart. As it stands, Yahaya Bello has exited the EFCC office, having been accompanied there by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.”
This case remains under the jurisdiction of a competent court, where Bello has consistently been represented by his legal team at every hearing. The former governor chose to attend the EFCC invitation to clear his name, stating he has nothing to hide or fear.
