Recent research highlights urban pavements as unexpected sanctuaries for wild bees and other insects, based on a comprehensive survey conducted in Berlin, Germany.
Researchers conducted an extensive examination of 200-meter stretches of pavement across 12 diverse locations in the city. They meticulously documented locations of insect nests and collected specimens observed at nest entrances, on the pavement, or flying within close proximity to the ground. The study also involved analyzing soil samples from the nests using advanced DNA sequencing techniques.
