Wike Vows to Safeguard PDP Structure Amid Rising Tensions in Rivers State
The Federal Capital Territory Minister has emphatically declared that he will not permit anyone to seize control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State.
In a bold statement, he warned that any PDP governor attempting to meddle in the party’s affairs within the South-South region could instigate a political uproar.
During a recent meeting in Taraba State, PDP governors addressed the ongoing turmoil within the party and expressed their unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by its Chairman, emphasized the necessity of reevaluating the party congress results to reaffirm Fubara’s leadership in Rivers.
Addressing party members at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt during a state congress, the Minister urged his fellow governors to refrain from interfering in Rivers’ political matters.
He asserted, “I assure you that no one will take the PDP structure from us. I’ve heard claims from some governors about seizing control and handing it back. I feel sorry for them because I will disrupt their states. If you choose chaos over peace, you will face consequences.”
The political landscape in Rivers PDP has been tumultuous since disputes arose between the Minister and his predecessor, who did not attend the congress.
Numerous current and former lawmakers, ex-council chairmen, and dedicated party members were present, illustrating the ongoing commitment of the PDP in the region despite internal challenges.
