HYDERABAD
The Welfare Association of Water Users and Ayacutdars in Andhra Pradesh has formally requested the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to initiate water release for the 3.67 lakh acres of ayacut under Zone-II and III of the Nagarjunasagar Left Canal, starting November 15.
In a recent memorandum submitted to KRMB Chairman, the association’s leaders detailed that crucial dry crops such as mango, tobacco, jowar, cotton, chilli, black gram, green gram, and others are cultivated in these zones. These crops require water for a month to ensure optimal yield.
Despite an allocation of 32.25 tmc ft, the two zones have only been receiving approximately 10 tmc ft, leading to repeated appeals to the river board for adequate water supply. The association has urged timely action in accordance with their water demand.
Additionally, they have called for the relocation of the river board’s office to Vijayawada, advocating that this move would facilitate easier access for ayacutdars and stakeholders, given Vijayawada’s superior connectivity compared to Visakhapatnam.
