D.C. punk band Ekko Astral is joining forces with the Gender Liberation Movement to launch a new music and arts festival, Liberation Weekend. Scheduled for May 30 and 31 in Washington, D.C., the festival will feature live performances from Ekko Astral, along with acts like Home Is Where, Ted Leo, Speedy Ortiz, and others.
The driving force behind this event is a commitment to supporting the trans community, as emphasized by Ekko Astral’s bandleader. “Artists of all genders and genres should stand in vocal support of the trans community,” they stated. “Music is humanity’s most universal language—and we need our best artists to come together in support of our community now before it’s too late.”
Proceeds from Liberation Weekend will benefit the Gender Liberation Movement’s initiatives, including rallies and demonstrations against anti-trans policies. Attendees can also look forward to a dance afterparty and a showcase of the Red Hot Organization’s compilation featuring notable artists. Ekko Astral is set to perform at both the Pitchfork Music Festival London and Pitchfork Music Festival Paris later this year.
Don’t miss out on this crucial event aimed at fostering unity and support for trans rights in the community.
