FINLAND /INDIA – ECNETNews reports that Nokia has secured a significant three-year contract with Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) to deploy both 4G and 5G networks. This agreement entails the modernization and expansion of VIL’s current 4G network, where Nokia is already a key provider. The rollout is set to enhance connectivity for 200 million VIL customers and marks a strategic move as Nokia aims to increase its market presence, replacing the current vendor in key regions that account for over 50 percent of VIL’s revenues. Deployment is set to commence immediately.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nokia will utilize its extensive and innovative 5G AirScale portfolio, which features energy-efficient ReefShark technology. The deployment will incorporate base stations, baseband units, and cutting-edge Habrok Massive MIMO radios, all designed to deliver superior 5G capacity and coverage. Additionally, Nokia will upgrade VIL’s existing 4G network with modern multiband radios and baseband equipment that is capable of supporting 5G technology.
Vodafone Idea will also leverage Nokia’s advanced network optimization platform, which enhances performance and efficiency through self-configuring modules. This customization enables the optimization of specific software applications, addressing unique operational needs. Nokia will provide comprehensive planning, deployment, integration, and network optimization services as part of the project.
