Jakarta, ECNETNews – The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, announced that the government plans to impose stricter regulations on citizens who neglect their tax responsibilities. One significant measure includes making it more challenging to obtain a passport.
Pandjaitan highlighted the government’s commitment to digitalization aimed at transforming tax administration, notably through the Coretax application. “If you wish to process your passport but haven’t paid your taxes, you will be unable to do so. Additionally, license renewals will be halted for those who are tax delinquent,” he stated on Thursday (Jan 9).
He emphasized that the push for digitalization is expected to ensure compliance with tax and royalty payments from individuals and businesses, ultimately fostering greater transparency in public administration throughout Indonesia. “This initiative will truly enhance Indonesia’s transparency in the future, facilitated by technological advancements,” he added.
Meanwhile, from DEN’s Executive Secretariat, Septian Hario Seto remarked that the implementation of the SIMBARA system is anticipated to further improve taxpayer compliance. He elaborated that this technology allows for the systematic identification of data inaccuracies. For example, SIMBARA can prevent a company from conducting coal sales if it has outstanding royalty payments. “In SIMBARA, if royalties for coal are unpaid, the system will block sales until all dues are settled,” he concluded.
