Tragic Avalanche Claims Two Lives in Oregon’s Cascade Mountains
BEND, Ore. – Authorities have reported that two individuals tragically lost their lives in an avalanche in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Tuesday that their search and rescue team successfully located the bodies near a snowmobile trail in Happy Valley.
The sheriff’s department responded to an emergency call regarding a potential avalanche overnight, near the Broken Top peak, which is situated west of Bend and northeast of the Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort.
Currently, the Avalanche Center has classified the avalanche risk in the Central Cascades as “considerable,” rating it a three on a scale of zero to five. This situation highlights the ongoing dangers present in mountainous regions during peak snowfall periods.
