New York City Police Officers Suspended Amid Burglary and Misconduct Charges
Two police officers in New York City face serious allegations, leading to their suspension after being charged with burglary and sexually assaulting a sex worker while responding to an illegal brothel complaint.
Officers Justin McMillan and Justin Colon are accused of intentionally disabling their body cameras while unlawfully entering a residential building, stealing money, and forcibly touching a woman during a duty call last July. This incident is currently under investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s office.
The officers, who have been on probation since graduating from the police academy in 2023, allegedly responded to reports of prostitution. Prosecutors claim the officers approached a woman leaving the building, taking a key from her before returning eight hours later. Upon entering the premises, they encountered a woman with a male client, who fled the scene.
During this encounter, Officer McMillan reportedly stole money from the woman’s purse and groped her. The woman managed to escape and contacted authorities with assistance from others, while the officers returned to their station without reporting the incident.
Both officers, McMillan, 27, and Colon, 24, pleaded not guilty during their arraignment and are scheduled to appear in court again on April 28. They face multiple charges, including forcible touching, petit larceny, burglary, and official misconduct.
The officers have been suspended without pay and were placed on modified duty during the ongoing investigation. The NYPD’s internal affairs bureau continues to examine the case.
In response to the incident, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch emphasized the commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism among officers, stating, "Any officer who violates their oath will be investigated, exposed, and held fully accountable."
