Two trackmen from the South Central Railway demonstrated exceptional vigilance during severe rain, averting a potential disaster by promptly notifying authorities about floodwater damaging railway tracks. On Saturday night into Sunday morning, G. Mohan and Jagadeesh were patrolling vulnerable track sections between Kesamudram and Intakanne, as well as Tallapusapalle and Mahabubabad.
Officials revealed that the trackmen quickly alerted their section engineers about the tracks being inundated. Initially, trains were permitted to pass at reduced speeds. However, when the Sanghamitra Express was en route, Mohan displayed quick thinking by waving a red flag and deploying detonators on the track. The detonators exploded as the train’s engine passed, prompting the loco pilot to apply the brakes immediately upon hearing the blasts.
In the second track section, Jagadeesh similarly warned authorities around 2:30 a.m. about further track erosion due to rising water levels, leading to an immediate suspension of train operations on that route.
General Manager Arun Kumar Jain praised the trackmen for their alertness and swift actions that prevented a significant incident during the night. Thanks to their diligence, train movements were successfully regulated at various stations along the route.
