President-elect Trump to Attend Former President Jimmy Carter’s Funeral
Palm Beach, Fla. – President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to attend the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.
As Trump arrived at a New Year’s Eve celebration at his Mar-a-Lago estate, he confirmed, “I’ll be there,” when asked about the upcoming service. He chose not to elaborate on whether he had communicated with Carter’s family.
The funeral services for Carter, who passed away at the age of 100, will take place in Georgia and Washington from January 4 to January 9.
Despite being a vocal critic of Carter during the election campaign, Trump expressed a respectful tone following Carter’s death. He acknowledged the “debt of gratitude” owed to the former president, citing their philosophical differences while recognizing Carter’s dedication to the nation.
Trump stated, “While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our country, and all it stands for. He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that, I give him my highest respect.”
During the New Year’s Eve festivities, Trump also responded to questions regarding current events, including the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza. He remarked, “We’re going to see what happens,” in relation to a potential ceasefire. Trump emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “They better let the hostages come back soon.”
Looking ahead, Trump expressed optimism for the upcoming year, predicting that 2025 would be a “great year” for America. He noted a positive atmosphere, saying, “There’s a whole light over the whole world, not just our country. There’re a lot of happy people.”
When discussing New Year’s resolutions, he simply wished for everyone to be “happy, healthy, and well.”
Later in the evening, Trump addressed the gathering at Mar-a-Lago, pledging to deliver a “great job” as president.
Meanwhile, President Biden celebrated New Year’s Eve at his niece’s wedding in Delaware, having altered his holiday plans to attend the ceremony.
