India’s top military commanders convened aboard the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to oversee joint exercises involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, marking a significant step towards operational integration across the armed forces.
High-ranking officials, including Lieutenant General Johnson P Mathew, Lieutenant General N S Raja Subramani, Vice Admiral K Swaminathan, and Air Marshal S P Dharkar, boarded the carrier off India’s west coast on January 30, 2025. Their attendance emphasized the commitment to improving coordination among the military branches.
The commanders observed the joint phase of TROPEX 25, a military exercise aimed at enhancing inter-service collaboration. The senior officers gained valuable insights into naval operations and the importance of cohesive defense strategies.
Air Marshal Dharkar showcased the integration of air and naval operations by arriving in a MiG-29K trainer aircraft, further underscoring the exercises’ collaborative efforts.
During their time at sea, officers participated in TROPEX 25 and AMPHEX, an amphibious warfare exercise, which featured simulated airstrikes, anti-submarine drills, and amphibious landings.
The senior officials also engaged in a closed-door briefing in the carrier’s war room, where they examined operational tactics and discussed future coordination initiatives among the services. This gathering reflects India’s ongoing commitment to enhancing military preparedness and cooperation.
