A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near Ayetoro early Monday morning resulted in the loss of nine lives and left three individuals injured. The collision, which occurred around 5:30 AM, involved a Toyota bus and a stationary truck.
Reports indicate that the driver of the bus lost control, leading to the fatal crash. In total, 13 individuals were involved, including 10 males and three females. Of those involved, nine people—six males and three females—were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others sustained injuries.
Authorities have identified excessive speed and driver fatigue as the likely causes of the incident. The injured victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, while the deceased were taken to a local morgue for identification.
Officials expressed concern regarding driver negligence on the expressway. Drivers failing to adhere to established speed limits and neglecting necessary breaks after long journeys contribute to the risk of such tragic events.
