President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to combating insecurity in Nigeria. This pledge was made on Monday during the Regimental Dinner Night held in Abuja to honor the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
With the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, representing him, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of equipping the military with the essential resources to tackle various security challenges facing the nation. He praised the commitment and professionalism of military personnel in their ongoing fight against insurgency and expressed that the sacrifices made by fallen heroes would always be remembered.
“This gathering not only highlights our joint commitment to the security and unity of our great nation but also recognizes the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women,” President Tinubu stated. He stressed the need for innovation and adaptability to face these challenges, ensuring military capabilities are continually developed.
The President assured that his administration would prioritize the welfare of armed forces personnel, providing them with the resources needed to effectively perform their duties.
Additionally, during this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Kano State Government contributed N10 million to support the families of fallen heroes. Governor Kabir Yusuf also personally donated N2 million, alongside notable contributions from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
In a related commemoration, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo recognized the bravery of the late Andrew Omotor, a firefighter who died in service. He assured the family of his continued support during their time of grief.
Former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Lucky Irabor underscored the need for targeted support for wounded and disabled veterans, advocating for tax benefits to enhance their morale. During the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Lecture, he stressed the importance of comprehensive healthcare for veterans facing economic challenges.
He proposed establishing a special initiative to provide affordable housing for veterans and called for enhanced healthcare policies that cover a wider array of medical needs, given the rising inflation rates.
In a commitment to resource management, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa promised to utilize military funds efficiently to help restore peace across Nigeria, stating that “We will judiciously utilize the money allocated to us to ensure Nigeria is peaceful.”
