Legendary German filmmaker Wim Wenders will arrive in the capital city as part of his inaugural Indian tour in February, making it one of five key stops. This event, titled ‘Wim Wenders – King of the Road – The India Tour,’ is organized by the Film Heritage Foundation along with local partners.
The tour will feature a retrospective showcasing Wenders’s iconic films, attended by the filmmaker himself. Wenders, a celebrated figure in cinema known for winning prestigious awards including the Palme d’Or, the Golden Lion, and numerous BAFTA nominations, is recognized as a leading pioneer of the New German Cinema movement from the 1970s.
Highlights of Wenders’s career include renowned works such as Paris, Texas (1984), Wings of Desire (1987), The Buena Vista Social Club (1999), Pina (2011), and the recent Perfect Days (2023), featuring a Best Actor award-winning performance by Koji Yakusho at Cannes.
The extensive retrospective will present a diverse selection of 18 films from Wenders’s expansive career, including features, short films, and documentaries. The screenings will take place in major cities—Mumbai, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata, and Delhi—running from February 5 to February 22. Audiences will be invited to attend on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wenders, well-known for his road movies, will embark on a journey across India, engaging with the public and collaborating with film students and experts. In Thiruvananthapuram, the screenings are scheduled at the Kairali theatre complex on February 10 and 11.
