Los Angeles Wildfires Prompt The Weeknd to Postpone Album Release and Concert
In light of the ongoing devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, The Weeknd has announced the postponement of his highly anticipated album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and the cancellation of the corresponding album release concert scheduled at the Rose Bowl. The artist expressed his sentiments with a statement emphasizing concern for the affected communities, revealing a new release date of January 31.
Originally set for release on January 24, Hurry Up Tomorrow will include the singles “Dancing in the Flames,” “Timeless (feat. Playboi Carti),” and “São Paulo (feat. Anitta).” Additionally, The Weeknd plans to release a film of the same name later this year, featuring appearances alongside notable actors.
The destructive wildfires have significantly impacted various musicians and their families in the region. Fundraisers have been initiated for several affected artists, including Diiv’s Zachary Cole Smith and others. Notably, producer Madlib shared that he lost his home, music archives, and all recording equipment in the disaster. In response, the Recording Academy and MusiCares have pledged $1 million for relief efforts, while Beyoncé has contributed $2.5 million. A benefit concert, FireAid, has also been organized and is set to take place at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome on January 30.
