Thailand welcomed over 35 million international visitors in 2024, contributing more than 1.6 trillion baht to the nation’s economy, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong announced that from January 1 to December 29, a total of 35.32 million tourists visited Thailand, resulting in a substantial economic impact of 1.66 trillion baht.
The largest group of foreign visitors comprised 6.7 million from China, followed by 4.93 million from Malaysia, 2.12 million from India, 1.86 million from South Korea, and 1.72 million from Russia.
Additionally, Thai citizens undertook 197.53 million domestic trips, spending a total of 952.77 billion baht on domestic tourism, according to the minister.
Mr. Sorawong highlighted that the past week saw 943,269 arrivals, marking the highest weekly visitor rate in Thailand since 2020. There was noted growth in both short and long-haul tourist segments across the board.
Over the last two weeks, approximately 100,000 weekly arrivals were recorded from Malaysia, making it the largest group during this timeframe, followed by visitors from China, Russia, India, and South Korea.
