A Tesla Cybertruck exploded at the entrance of Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on New Year’s Day, leaving one person dead and seven others injured, according to local authorities.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed during a media briefing that the investigation is underway, with various leads being explored.
On the same day, an incident in New Orleans also raised concerns, where a driver crashed into a crowd, resulting in at least 10 fatalities. Authorities discovered suspected improvised explosive devices in the city following that event.
McMahill emphasized that local authorities are actively searching for any potential “secondary devices,” stating that there does not currently appear to be an ongoing threat to the community.
Investigation into Cybertruck Explosion
The exact cause of the Cybertruck’s explosion remains unconfirmed. Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggested that the explosion was linked to “fireworks and/or a bomb in the bed of the rented Cybertruck” in a recent statement. He also indicated that the entire senior team at Tesla is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
Musk remarked, “We’ve never seen anything like this.” This event comes amid a series of recalls for the Cybertruck, with 700,000 units impacted by a tire pressure warning light recall in December. Other recent recalls have also targeted issues with the windshield wiper, rearview display, and accelerator pedal.
