A Chinese court has delivered a significant verdict, sentencing two teenagers for the murder of their classmate, which occurred in March. The defendants, aged just 13 and identified by their surnames Zhang and Li, were found guilty of conspiring to kill their peer, Wang, in a shocking case that has drawn widespread public outrage.
The court revealed that the teenagers attacked Wang with a shovel and subsequently buried him in an abandoned vegetable greenhouse. The judge described their actions as “especially cruel” and the circumstances surrounding the crime as “especially vile.” Zhang was sentenced to life imprisonment, while Li received a 12-year sentence.
This case has captivated public attention since its inception, highlighting issues of bullying and violence among youth. Wang had reportedly faced ongoing harassment from classmates, as confirmed by his family and legal representatives.
A third participant, identified as Ma, was present during the incident but did not face criminal charges. Evidence revealed that Zhang lured Wang to the greenhouse under false pretenses, while Li accompanied Ma on another scooter, informing him of their deadly intentions along the way.
Witnesses recounted how the assault unfolded when Zhang struck Wang with the shovel, with Li assisting in the brutal attack. Disturbed by the scene, Ma exited the greenhouse during the assault. The two perpetrators ultimately buried Wang and fled the scene, with Zhang later transferring funds from Wang’s WeChat account to himself and Li. He also ordered Ma to destroy evidence, specifically Wang’s SIM card.
Following police intervention, Ma guided authorities to the crime scene, leading to the apprehension of Zhang and Li. The court stated that Zhang was the primary instigator, having planned the murder, while Li was deemed a willing accomplice who shared in the ill-gotten gains.
