Dar es Salaam. Twenty-six Tanzanian companies are showcasing their contributions to the agriculture sector at the Fruit Logistica 2025 Exhibition, aimed at promoting local fresh produce.
This significant global trade fair is being held from February 5 to 7 in Berlin, Germany.
The delegation is spearheaded by the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (Copra) and the Tanzania Horticultural Association (Taha).
Fruit Logistica is recognized as one of the most important global trade fairs for the fresh produce industry, drawing participation from over 135 countries along with thousands of exhibitors and buyers.
The exhibition serves as an essential platform for fostering international trade connections, investment opportunities, and knowledge sharing within the fresh produce sector.
Tanzania has previously participated in this event, but this year marks the first involvement of the newly established Copra and the regulatory authority managing structured markets in horticulture.
As detailed by Copra, the Tanzania pavilion features key players in the avocado value chain, the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) youth programme, and Taha members from the spices, fruits, and vegetable sectors.
“This event provides a compelling opportunity to highlight Copra’s crucial role in expanding global market access for Tanzanian horticultural products,” stated the Copra director general.
She emphasized that the anticipated outcomes include establishing new trade partnerships between Tanzanian exporters and international buyers, alongside acquiring market insights and policy recommendations to drive investments in Tanzania’s fresh produce sector.
Recent statistics indicate that Tanzania’s total horticultural crop production for 2023/2024 reached 174,904.81 metric tonnes, with an export value exceeding $253.8 million, underscoring the sector’s significance in economic growth.
In the upcoming 2024/2025 financial year, the Ministry of Agriculture, together with various agricultural stakeholders, has set ambitious goals to enhance the nation’s horticultural sector.
A central strategy involves improving market access through active participation in international trade shows, with a target of increasing overall horticultural crop production by six percent.
The collaboration between Copra and Taha exemplifies a public-private partnership (PPP) designed to strengthen Tanzania’s presence in global markets.
Representing the Avocado Society of Tanzania, a local farmer expressed expectations that Tanzania’s premium agricultural products will be successfully branded in international markets, boosting their visibility and solidifying Tanzania’s role as a significant player in global trade.
