Lenovo has officially announced the launch of its new handheld gaming device, the Legion Go S, which will feature Valve’s SteamOS. This development was unveiled at CES 2025, showcasing the device’s capabilities powered by the Linux-based operating system, similar to that found on the popular Steam Deck.
The Legion Go S aims to provide a more user-friendly experience tailored for smaller screens, distinguishing it from traditional Windows 11 alternatives. While it sacrifices the ability to load games from various storefronts, SteamOS offers a streamlined and intuitive interface, making it an ideal choice for gamers seeking a hassle-free, portable gaming solution.
In terms of hardware, the Legion Go S is positioned to compete directly with the Steam Deck, incorporating significant upgrades. Although it will not feature detachable controllers, it will include a trackpad beneath the face buttons for added functionality. The handheld will harness the power of the new AMD Z2 Go chip, and it boasts a remarkable 120Hz variable-refresh-rate display along with customizable levers on the rear, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
Lenovo plans to launch a version of the Legion Go S running Windows OS, priced at $730, which will include a 1TB SSD and 32GB of RAM, followed by another Windows variant with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for $600, set to debut in May. The SteamOS-equipped Legion Go S is also anticipated for release in May, with a projected price tag of $500, and Valve will ensure ongoing support through SteamOS updates.
