In anticipation of the upcoming Assembly session set to begin on January 6, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu met with Governor R.N. Ravi at the Raj Bhavan on Friday. During this meeting, Appavu extended an invitation for the Governor to deliver his address to the Assembly.
The first Assembly session of the year traditionally begins with the Governor’s address, which will be delivered in English, followed by a Tamil rendition by the Speaker.
Over the last two years, the Governor’s address has been marked by significant tensions between the Governor and Chief Minister, highlighting the increasing discord on various issues, including DMK governance, drug abuse concerns among youth, and ministerial selections. Despite these differences, both officials have maintained their roles in significant events, such as the Republic Day celebrations.
The Assembly currently has 234 members, with one seat vacant following the passing of Congress leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan on December 14, who represented the Erode East constituency.
