Authorities have issued severe warnings for thunderstorms and high winds affecting all provinces in the North, Northeast, and Central Plain, including Bangkok and Chumphon, lasting until Thursday.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has confirmed that preparations are underway across provinces to address the anticipated severe weather conditions.
This warning follows reports from the Meteorological Department detailing the approach of high-pressure systems from China, which will impact the eastern regions of the North and Northeast, along with the South China Sea. Concurrently, the monsoon trough is expected to bring significant weather to the lower North and Central Plain.
According to the Meteorological Department’s director-general, thunderstorms and windstorms are predicted:
On Sunday in:
- Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai, Sakon Nakhon, and Udon Thani
On Monday and Tuesday in:
- Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kamphaeng Phet, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phayao, Phetchabun, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Sukhothai, Tak, and Uttaradit;
- Amnat Charoen, Bueng Kan, Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Loei, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nong Khai, Roi Et, Sakon Nakhon, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, and Yasothon;
- Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Chai Nat, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, and Greater Bangkok;
- Eastern provinces including Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, and Trat.
On Wednesday and Thursday in:
- Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kamphaeng Phet, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Phetchabun, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Sukhothai, Tak, and Uttaradit;
- Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Surin;
- Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Chai Nat, Kanchanaburi, Lop Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Sawan, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, and Greater Bangkok;
- Eastern provinces including Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, and Trat;
- Southern provinces such as Chumphon, Phetchaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Temperature drops of one to three degrees Celsius are expected in the Northeast later in the week.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has noted flooding in 17 provinces, primarily in the North and Northeast, affecting around 40,000 families.
Flood-affected areas include:
Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Nan, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Sukhothai, Tak; in the Northeast, Chaiyaphum, Maha Sarakham, Nong Khai, Ubon Ratchathani, and Udon Thani; Ayutthaya in the Central Plain; and Prachin Buri in the East.
While floodwaters are receding in most areas, levels are rising in Phitsanulok and Ayutthaya, remaining unchanged in Maha Sarakham.
Since August 16, flooding has impacted approximately 181,000 households, resulting in 49 fatalities and 28 injuries across 37 provinces.
