Sentient, supported by prominent investors, has launched Open Deep Search, an innovative open-source AI framework that surpasses Perplexity in reasoning and search performance. This groundbreaking release aims to democratize access to advanced artificial intelligence and ignite web3 innovation through Sentient Chat, which is already experiencing significant interest with a waitlist of 1.75 million users.
Based in San Francisco, decentralized AI developer Sentient announced the upcoming release of Open Deep Search on April 2. In an official statement, the company revealed that ODS is the first open-source AI search system to exceed the performance benchmarks of Perplexity and its Sonar Reasoning Pro, including tests like FRAMES and SimpleQA.
The technology was first showcased to over 1,500 developers in the crypto and AI sectors at the Open AGI Summit during ETH Denver. Sentient’s platform promises improved multi-step reasoning and factual query responses, positioning ODS as a potential game-changer in the AI search landscape.
Sentient Labs, the creator of ODS, was founded by a former key player in the crypto industry. The platform successfully secured $85 million in seed funding, demonstrating strong backing from investors committed to advancing decentralized AI solutions.
“The launch of Open Deep Search is a significant step in our goal to make AI accessible to all,” stated a co-founder of Sentient. “By open-sourcing a framework that outperforms industry leaders like Perplexity, we challenge closed-source AI developers while providing tools for creators to develop their ideal applications.”
Enhancing Access with Sentient Chat
Open Deep Search is set to be integrated into Sentient Chat, the company’s consumer-facing AI chatbot. The initial rollout will commence with early testers, followed by weekly feature updates leading to a full public launch within the next two months.
Despite being smaller than major AI enterprises, Sentient has developed ODS using decentralized principles and a cost-efficient approach. This strategy allows the company to compete with centralized AI models that are heavily funded.
“ODS demonstrates that open-source AI can rival closed-source technologies in reasoning architecture and search capabilities,” the company emphasized in its announcement.
