Scottie Scheffler capped off an extraordinary season by claiming the FedExCup title for the first time at the Tour Championship. In his reflections on the season’s journey and his remarkable win at East Lake, Scheffler shared his thoughts on the hard work that propelled him to this moment.
“It’s a pretty special feeling to finally be holding this trophy,” Scheffler expressed, acknowledging the exhaustion that came with a demanding week. “I tried my best to stay in the present, and I did a good job of that.”
Managing a significant seven-shot lead after the first round was an unprecedented experience for Scheffler. “It’s a different feeling, and this tournament seems to last longer than others,” he noted.
Reflecting on the past year, Scheffler remarked, “I feel like I’ve lived a full lifetime in this one year.” He credited his faith and mental resilience as key factors in maintaining his focus throughout the season. Leading the FedExCup points for an extended period, he emphasized the importance of finishing strong.
Having faced challenges in previous seasons, Scheffler was determined to overcome the pressure he had previously placed on himself during crucial tournaments. “This year, I did a good job of just staying in it mentally and keeping my head down,” he shared.
The final round presented challenges, including unexpected bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes. However, with support from his caddie, Scheffler regained momentum and finished strong, attributing much of his success to his caddie’s timely advice.
“It really changed the momentum of the round,” he said of the key moments during play. Scheffler praised his caddie’s consistent support, stating, “He really is my biggest asset out there on the course.”
As he looks forward, Scheffler expressed excitement about the upcoming Presidents Cup, which will take place at Royal Montreal from September 26-29. “It’s been a very eventful year and it’s been really fun,” he concluded.
With significant wins under his belt this season, including over $62 million in earnings, Scheffler is poised for continued success as he prepares for future challenges in his career.
