Samsung is set to unveil the highly anticipated Galaxy Fold 7 in July, and sources indicate that the tech giant may also introduce a new pair of bone conduction headphones at the launch event. This revelation comes from reliable insiders suggesting that the Samsung Fold conference will feature additional exciting products.
While specific details remain scarce, reports indicate that the upcoming headset carries the codename “Able.” It is expected to utilize open wireless stereo (OWS) technology, allowing sound to be transmitted around the ear rather than forcing headphones into the ear canal.
Key information such as availability, design, color options, and pricing has yet to be revealed.
Samsung has phone concepts that bend, stretch and fold in every possible way
It’s important to clarify that OWS and bone conduction represent different audio technologies. OWS, or air conduction, pertains to earbuds that rest close to the ear, transmitting sound into the ear canal. In contrast, bone conduction headphones sit against the side of the head, bypassing the ear entirely by delivering sound through the skull.
As industry experts suggest, while Samsung is certainly developing something innovative, it remains unclear whether the new headset will leverage air conduction, bone conduction, or a combination of both technologies. The most plausible assumption is that OWS refers to an open earbud design, akin to existing products in the market. We’ll have to wait until July for further clarity.
This expansion into bone conduction technology signifies a major step for Samsung, as the market currently features limited competition. Leading brands include Shokz, Philips, and H2O, indicating that there’s significant potential for growth in this space. Additionally, if Samsung opts for an open wireless earbud design, it would join the ranks of Bose in exploring this emerging market.
