Ryan Salame, the former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets, has filed a request to delay the start of his prison sentence due to medical concerns. His defense team is seeking to move his self-surrender date from October 11 to December 7, 2024, to allow for recovery from injuries sustained in a dog attack earlier this summer.
In a formal court request, Salame’s legal representatives stated, “We respectfully request that the Court continue the date for Salame to voluntarily surrender to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to begin serving his sentence from Friday, October 11, 2024, to Friday, December 7, 2024, so that he may receive continuing medical treatment deemed necessary by his treating physician to recover from the injuries sustained on or about June 29, 2024.”
The ongoing medical treatment required for Salame’s dog bite injuries is cited by his legal team as justification for the requested postponement.
### Salame’s Sentencing
Ryan Salame was sentenced to seven years and five months in prison for his involvement in operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business and illegal campaign financing while associated with FTX. This request forms part of Salame’s ongoing legal challenges linked to the infamous collapse of the FTX exchange. Although a key player in the organization, Salame did not testify in the high-profile trial of former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
As part of his plea agreement earlier this year, Salame consented to forfeit nearly $6 million in assets, which included a restaurant located in Massachusetts.
