A Malaysian visitor crashed his car into a fruit vendor and several shops along Kanchanawanich Road in Sadao district, Songkhla, resulting in injuries to both the driver and the vendor.
Recent statistics reveal a staggering 393 fatalities linked to 2,322 traffic accidents in Thailand between December 27 and January 4. The most significant number of deaths during this holiday travel period occurred in Bangkok.
Furthermore, 2,251 individuals sustained injuries over the nine-day New Year travel duration, according to data released by the National Economic and Social Development Council.
The southern province of Surat Thani witnessed the highest number of traffic incidents, totaling 86 accidents with 95 injuries, while Bangkok recorded the highest number of fatalities at 24.
On January 4 alone, there were 169 traffic accidents, resulting in 23 deaths and 164 injuries. Speeding emerged as the primary cause of these accidents, with motorcycles involved in 84% of the incidents.
To address this alarming trend, authorities began a road safety campaign aimed at reducing traffic accidents that ran from December 27 to January 5. Motorists are urged to exercise caution as they return to work in Bangkok and other provinces following the holiday period.
