In a troubling development, security forces have been unable to quell bandit activity in the Ukwugba area of the Obiakpu autonomous community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, despite the presence of military and police personnel nearby. Residents report that they are fleeing their homes due to ongoing violence.
For nearly two weeks, locals have been displaced, seeking safety in neighboring communities as bandit attacks escalate. The indigenes are urgently calling on Governor Hope Uzodinma to take decisive action to restore security.
Chief Ndubueze Nwokoma, the eze-elect of the community, stated, “Despite the presence of the Nigerian Army, the Police, and other security agencies, there have been relentless killings in Ukwugba over the past two weeks.” He highlighted suspicious activities by bandits near the locations where security forces are stationed.
The eze-elect emphasized the need for an enhanced security response in the area. He urged Governor Uzodinma to deploy a specialized team to address the escalating violence effectively.
