Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has officially joined Arsenal on a season-long loan, following the submission of a deal sheet that permitted the transfer beyond the deadline. The 29-year-old England international found himself sidelined at Stamford Bridge under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who has expressed a preference for different playing styles.
Maresca informed Sterling he would not have a place in the squad after he was omitted from the opening match against Manchester City on August 18, and the forward has not been included in any match-day squad since.
Sterling initially joined Chelsea as a high-profile signing for £47.5 million in the summer of 2022, making 81 appearances and netting 19 goals over two seasons. Notably, his current loan agreement does not include a purchase option at the conclusion of the season.
This move represents a reunion with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who was an assistant to Pep Guardiola during much of Sterling’s seven-year tenure at Manchester City. Arteta has previously expressed admiration for Sterling, describing their time together as “exceptional” and emphasizing the strong relationship they built.
As the season progresses, fans will be eager to see how Sterling adapts to his role at Arsenal and whether he can recapture his form.
