M. Nigoshkumar, the proprietor of Mridanga Vision, recently appeared before Kochi City police following a directive from the Kerala High Court. This comes after the mass dance event at the Kaloor stadium, during which Uma Thomas, MLA, suffered a fall from a temporary stage. Nigoshkumar is one of five individuals facing charges of criminal negligence and attempted culpable homicide related to this incident.
While Nigoshkumar complied with the court order, another accused, P.S. Janish, the owner of an event management company, failed to appear. The High Court had instructed both individuals to present themselves to the investigating officer as part of their anticipatory bail plea process. Reports indicate that the police have frozen Mridanga Vision’s bank account, which contains approximately ₹38 lakh.
In light of recent video footage released, which depicts Ms. Thomas’ fall, District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya described the incident as unfortunate. He confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway, focusing on the financial operations of Mridanga Vision. Charges including criminal breach of trust and cheating have been filed, and authorities are scrutinizing bank accounts and documents to determine the financial contributions received by the organizers. Witness statements are actively being collected, and the Public Works department has reported on the unsafe construction of the stage.
In related news, actor Divya Unni, who participated in the dance performance, has traveled to the United States. Police officials have stated that there are currently no plans to question her but will do so if deemed necessary in the investigation.
