A recent Class 12 Political Science exam in Punjab has sparked controversy due to questions focused on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on March 4, the exam asked students to identify the year AAP was established and discuss its policies.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized AAP for allegedly exploiting the education system to promote its political agenda. Vineet Joshi, media head of the Punjab BJP, expressed concerns that such questions suggest students have been instructed about AAP’s initiatives during their academic year, potentially influencing young voters ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.
Joshi questioned the rationale behind the exam questions, stating, “Is AAP manipulating the education system for political gain? If a question was necessary, it should have addressed the BJP and its foundational achievements.” He voiced concerns regarding AAP’s promises, including financial aid to women and the party’s efforts to engage first-time voters.
In response, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains rejected the BJP’s claims. State Minister Aman Arora stated, “The BJP should be patient; their questions may come in future exams. The education department is responsible for the questionnaire. Political Science inherently involves political questions, so it’s not surprising to include queries related to AAP.”
This incident is indicative of the growing political tensions between the BJP and AAP in Punjab.
