Two weeks after a wedding ceremony in Jigawa State turned tragic, resulting in one guest’s death and leaving the groom critically ill, authorities have arrested the bride and her former lover.
The incident, which unfolded in the Jahun Local Government Area, attracted significant attention following the arrests made by police investigators. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the bride’s alleged actions were motivated by a personal vendetta.
While police have not yet confirmed the motives behind the actions of the suspects or the exact circumstances surrounding the wedding tragedy, investigations are ongoing. Initial findings reveal that the suspects, identified as 15-year-old Zahra’u Dauda and 22-year-old Lawan Musa, are accused of conspiring to poison the groom’s food.
Reports indicate that the groom, Kamisu Haruna, 29, and two friends shared a meal, leading to severe stomachaches, with one friend ultimately succumbing to the illness.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, reported the arrests, stating, “We have arrested the bride and her ex-lover in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident.” He detailed that both suspects, residents of Bagata Gabas village, were allegedly involved in a plot to poison the groom, Kamisu Haruna, of Albasu village.
According to Adam, the victims were taken to the hospital, where one friend of the groom was confirmed dead. Investigators are determined to uncover the full truth of the situation, with ongoing efforts to ensure justice is served.
The police have urged the public to remain calm, assuring that they are diligently working to resolve the case and will provide further updates as more information becomes available. In a related note, all other wedding attendees who consumed the contaminated food have since been discharged from the hospital, apart from the individual who died.
