Dar es Salaam: A Crucial Gathering for East Africa’s Petroleum Sector
The upcoming East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2025 (EAPCE’25) is set to emphasize the critical role of petroleum resources in the region’s energy landscape. Scheduled for March 5 to 7, 2025, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, this biennial event will serve as a pivotal forum for engaging stakeholders in the petroleum industry.
Having been established in 2003, EAPCE has become a vital platform for policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to address both opportunities and challenges facing the oil and gas sector in East Africa.
This year, under the conference theme “Unlocking Investment in Future Energy: The Role of Petroleum Resources in the Energy Mix for Sustainable Development in East Africa,” attendees can expect a series of technical papers, poster presentations, and exhibitions designed to spur collaboration and knowledge sharing. Additionally, delegates will have the unique opportunity to participate in field excursions to geological sites, ongoing projects, and notable tourist attractions.
As the global community confronts an energy crisis, experts emphasize that a diversified energy portfolio—a mix that includes petroleum alongside renewables such as solar and wind—is essential for sustainable development. Notably, over 90 percent of the electricity generated in East Africa is derived from clean energy, indicating a commitment to sustainability.
Policymakers attending the conference will explore strategies to successfully incorporate petroleum into the region’s energy framework while ensuring environmental stewardship.
EAC Partner States will leverage this forum to showcase their petroleum exploration and production capabilities, with updates on current projects and insights into their legal and regulatory frameworks aimed at improving the investment landscape.
Participants can expect to promote their businesses, engage in networking opportunities through business-to-business meetings, and immerse themselves in East Africa’s rich cultural and tourism offerings.
A highlight of this year’s conference will be the participation of Canadian company Rocky Mountain Clean Fuel Inc., which is moving forward with a $420 million gas-to-liquid project in Tanzania. This state-of-the-art facility aims to convert natural gas into jet fuel and diesel, thereby enhancing the country’s energy security and economic growth.
EAPCE’25 is poised to spotlight the petroleum potential of the East African region, attract investment opportunities, and facilitate the exchange of cutting-edge information and technologies within the oil and gas industry.
