Patti Smith Addresses Fans After Stage Collapse in Brazil
Patti Smith has reassured her fans that she is “fine” following a concerning incident during her performance in São Paulo, Brazil, on January 29. The iconic musician collapsed on stage at the Cultura Artística Theater, prompting an early end to the show. In her statement, Smith attributed the incident to “some post migraine dizziness,” labeling it as “a small incident.”
Sources indicated that Smith fainted approximately 30 minutes into her performance while reading about climate change. After receiving medical attention backstage, she returned to express her apologies to the audience, stating, “Unfortunately, I got sick, and the doctor said I can’t finish. So we will have to figure something out. And I feel very badly.” She went on to perform a capella renditions of “Wing” and “Because the Night.”
In her full remarks, Smith emphasized, “I was checked out by an excellent doctor and was absolutely fine. Please do not accept any other story. With all the strife in the world, this explainable incident does not merit so much attention. Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me, I am fine.” She also noted that “a grossly exaggerated account of the incident is being spread.”
Smith is currently in São Paulo for the two-day “Correspondences” project collaboration with the Berlin-based group Soundwalk Collective, who expressed gratitude on social media, highlighting Smith’s appreciation for the audience’s patience and support.
Patti Smith’s message serves as an important reminder of her resilience and dedication to her fans amid rampant speculation.
