An exciting Overwatch 2 crossover event is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft, transforming some of the game’s well-known heroes into legendary figures from Blizzard’s acclaimed MMORPG.
The newly released trailer offers a thrilling glimpse into Overwatch’s Blizzard World map, showcasing characters like Reinhardt as the Lich King and Widowmaker as Sylvanas, among others. Key details about the event remain under wraps, but fans can expect World of Warcraft-themed skins for heroes such as Zenyatta, dressed as Thrall, and Torbjorn as Magni Bronzebeard, all scheduled to debut on September 17.
Players will have the opportunity to align with either the Horde or the Alliance, as Blizzard invites everyone to join this legendary celebration. “Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft are uniting for a spectacular crossover,” says the trailer’s description. “Represent the iconic factions as Overwatch heroes pay tribute to legendary characters from Azeroth.”
This isn’t the first instance of WoW-themed skins in Overwatch, nor is it the first crossover event between Blizzard titles. Previous collaborations included Doomfist as Orc warchief Blackhand and Genji sporting an Illidan Stormrage skin. Torbjorn already has a skin based on Magni Bronzebeard, but the latest design features his diamond-form “Speaker of Azeroth.”
The last crossover for Overwatch was themed around Diablo 4, unveiling a new PvE mode where players faced off against foes like Azmodan Wrecking Ball and Butcher Roadhog.
In addition, World of Warcraft is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a substantial update later this year, featuring activities and rewards that reflect the game’s rich history. Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 recently welcomed its latest support hero, Juno, continuing to expand its universe.
