Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has formally discussed his decision to join Turkish club Galatasaray, highlighting the significant influence of the team’s coach and his personal affinity for the club.
In a recent interview, Osimhen addressed the skepticism surrounding his transfer, stating that constructive conversations with the coach ultimately solidified his choice. “Many believed I wouldn’t come to the club. However, it was a straightforward decision for me since the coach played a pivotal role in my arrival,” he noted.
Osimhen was already acquainted with the club’s playing style prior to his transfer. “I had watched their matches frequently, especially since I am close to Dries. Even before considering a transfer, I often tuned in to observe their gameplay,” he explained.
The forward emphasized that the club’s vision resonates with his personal goals. “During our discussions, the coach elaborated on the club’s objectives for this season. I feel our mindsets are aligned,” he asserted.
Describing himself as embodying the club’s ethos, he remarked, “The club’s symbol is a lion, which parallels my approach to the game and my life’s journey, making my acceptance of the club quite natural,” he remarked.
Addressing his relentless pursuit of self-improvement, Osimhen shared that he relies on self-evaluation to gauge his performances, rather than the opinions of others. “I am my own critic, which is why I remain unfazed by negative comments about me online,” he said.
He expressed candid frustrations regarding missed scoring opportunities, despite his knack for netting impressive goals. “Often, I miss chances I should score but then manage to net extraordinary goals. I constantly feel I can achieve more,” he admitted.
Reflecting on a recent performance against Tottenham, where he scored twice, he conveyed a sense of dissatisfaction, stating, “I believe I could have scored five goals, not just two. Though I wasn’t fully satisfied, winning is what matters most.”
Osimhen noted that his teammates often encourage him to elevate his game, sharing insights from conversations with Andries and goalkeeper Muslera about missed chances.
Despite his achievements, Osimhen emphasized his ongoing development as a player, stating, “After matches, I review highlights and think, ‘Victor, you could have done this or that.’ I recognize that I am still evolving.”
Looking back on his journey, he acknowledged significant growth since his days at the U-17 level. “I’ve made considerable strides and emerged as one of the top players in my position, but there remains much to learn,” he concluded.
