ECNETNews reports that a leading tech company has recently identified and banned multiple accounts linked to an Iranian influence operation. According to the company’s statement, these accounts were reportedly utilizing artificial intelligence technology to create content centered around various topics, including the upcoming U.S. presidential campaign.
This operation, known as Storm-2035, has been noted for its attempts to sway elections through the development of fake news websites, which are disseminated via social media. The tech company revealed that the group utilized AI to produce content that covered a range of issues, including commentary on candidates from both major U.S. political parties, which was subsequently shared through various social media channels and websites.
The generated content included discussions about both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, responses to Israel’s actions in Gaza, debates about the rights of Latinx communities, Venezuelan politics, and Scottish independence. Additionally, the group created fashion and beauty-related content, seemingly to enhance their perceived authenticity and attract followers.
Despite these efforts, the company noted that the influence operation did not gain “meaningful audience engagement.” Most social media posts associated with this initiative received minimal to no interaction, and the web articles were seldom shared.
The company emphasized its commitment to addressing any endeavors aimed at employing its services for foreign influence operations, reiterating the importance of safeguarding the integrity of information on its platforms.
