A tragic multiple-vehicle accident at Otedola Bridge in Lagos has resulted in one fatality and left three others injured. The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Tuesday.
According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident occurred during the agency’s operation to recover a fallen 40-foot container.
“While efforts were ongoing to safely recover the container for transport to the LASTMA office in Oshodi, another accident took place in close proximity on Otedola Bridge,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found four trucks, all loaded with containers, entangled due to the collision. Investigators have reported that reckless driving was likely the cause of the accident, leading to one adult male being trapped beneath one of the trucks and subsequently losing his life.
Three other adult males suffered varying degrees of injury, with two of them requiring immediate transport to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving on-site medical care.
LASEMA assured that all necessary safety measures were implemented to prevent further incidents. Those rescued received prompt medical attention, and the deceased was respectfully recovered and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.
Recovery efforts successfully cleared the affected trucks from the roadway, allowing traffic to resume safely.
