This significant loss has been felt deeply across the state and the nation.
Onanuga, who served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives for the Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency, passed away at the age of 59 at a hospital in the UK after battling illness for over two months.
In a heartfelt message, Governor Abiodun described Onanuga, affectionately known as “Ijaya,” as a fearless leader and dedicated party member. He emphasized her substantial contributions to the advancement of women and the overall well-being of her constituents throughout her career.
“The passing of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga is a monumental loss for Ogun State and Nigeria,” Abiodun stated. “Her sudden departure is both shocking and devastating; we have lost a truly remarkable individual. Her courage and loyalty were exemplary, and we will miss her dearly. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family find the strength to endure this immense loss.”
Former Governor Daniel shared his deep sadness and shock at the news of Onanuga’s death, recalling her as a close confidant and trusted ally. He described her as not just a notable politician but also a beacon of hope for women in politics, inspiring many with her unwavering spirit and dedication.
“The impact she made in her political career and her community will be remembered,” Daniel remarked. “She embodied a resilient ‘Can Do’ attitude, leaving an indelible mark wherever she went. As Sagamu and Remoland mourn her loss, we will find comfort in her legacy of never yielding and the inspiration she provided to all.”
