The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State has confirmed the tragic death of an officer from the “Operation Crush” Joint Task Force in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday at Isieke, along the Umuahia-Bende Road.
In response, state Governor Alex Otti expressed his condolences and announced that the government would take charge of the medical treatment for the eight survivors, which includes personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
A press statement from the FRSC Abia State Command, released by Corps Commander Ngozi Ezeoma, reported that the crash resulted from brake failure, leaving eight officers with varying degrees of injuries. Ezeoma detailed that the accident took place Sunday night when the vehicle lost control and fell into a ditch. Emergency services had been called, and the injured officers were quickly transported to the Federal Medical Center in Umuahia for care.
Ezeoma urged all motorists to exercise caution on the roads by avoiding excessive speeds and drunk-driving, while also emphasizing the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly brake checks, prior to any journey.
Governor Otti extended his sympathies to the Joint Security Command and the family of the deceased officer. He lamented the loss of life, calling the incident “sad and unfortunate,” and reassured that the state government would ensure that the injured receive top-notch medical care to facilitate a swift recovery. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor reiterated his commitment to supporting the survivors in their time of need.
