Neil Young Set to Headline Glastonbury 2025 After Miscommunication
Neil Young is officially scheduled to headline Glastonbury 2025, marking a significant return for the iconic musician. Initially expressing concerns over corporate influence at the nonprofit festival, Young has since clarified that he will indeed perform. In a follow-up statement, he mentioned, “Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing!” attributing the earlier misunderstanding to an “error in the information received.”
Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis expressed her excitement on social media, stating, “What a start to the year! Neil Young is an artist who’s very close to our hearts at Glastonbury. He does things his own way and that’s why we love him.”
The BBC has held an exclusive broadcasting partnership with Glastonbury since 1997, predating Young’s last headline performance in 2009. Previously, Young voiced his dissatisfaction, claiming the BBC sought to impose conditions that did not resonate with him.
As anticipation builds, it remains uncertain how much of Young’s performance will be broadcast. Historically, he has limited the airing of his sets; in 2009, only five songs were permitted after extensive discussions. This raises the question of how much access fans will have to his upcoming Glastonbury performance. Young’s approach often emphasizes live experiences over televised availability, fostering an air of exclusivity around his artistry.
