Mel Gibson’s Malibu Home Destroyed in Devastating Los Angeles Wildfires
Mel Gibson has confirmed that his Malibu residence has been completely destroyed by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. While he was in Austin, Texas, recording an appearance on a podcast, the Oscar-winning actor learned that his home was “completely toasted,” prompting him to voice his frustration with California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the wildfire crisis.
The wildfires have already claimed at least 10 lives, obliterated thousands of structures, and forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents across the state. Numerous celebrities have also reported losing their homes due to the relentless flames, with officials warning that predicted high winds may exacerbate the situation.
“I felt ill at ease knowing my neighborhood was on fire,” Gibson remarked during an interview, expressing his sorrow over the loss. He described the experience as “devastating” and emphasized the emotional toll it has taken, stating, “It’s kind of devastating, it’s emotional.”
Throughout the past 15 years, Gibson resided in the now-destroyed property, which was home to many of his neighbors, including fellow actor Ed Harris. The actor confirmed that his family had heeded evacuation orders and was safe.
In his podcast discussion, Gibson criticized Governor Newsom, who he claimed had failed to manage the state’s forest resources effectively, expressing discontent over misappropriated tax dollars for other initiatives.
Los Angeles is currently battling its worst wildfire crisis in history, with approximately 31,000 acres burned and around 180,000 residents evacuated. There are still five significant active wildfires affecting the LA region, including Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Hurst, and Lidia. Fire officials estimate that around 10,000 structures have likely been destroyed, with further damage anticipated from ongoing and high winds.
In recent comments, Republican leaders, including President-elect Donald Trump, have called for Newsom to resign, critiquing his handling of the disaster. Governor Newsom, however, defended his administration’s response, stating that all available resources are being mobilized to protect communities.
President Joe Biden has pledged additional federal resources to support California during what has been described as “the most widespread, devastating fire” in the state’s recorded history.
### Celebrities Affected by Wildfires
High-profile figures such as Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal have also suffered losses as a result of the wildfires. Hilton, a prominent hotel heiress and reality TV star, shared her heartbreak over the destruction of her home, while Crystal and his wife expressed sorrow over their beloved Pacific Palisades residence, which they had occupied since 1979.
Other celebrities, including Ricki Lake, Rainn Wilson, Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Anna Faris, and Cary Elwes, have also reported losing their homes to the flames. Community members, including actor Steve Guttenberg, have been actively aiding evacuation efforts, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have extended their hospitality to friends and loved ones affected by the wildfires, urging others in the community to offer shelter whenever possible. Their statement highlights the importance of supporting those in need during these unprecedented times.
