A 33-year-old man, Nasiru Isa, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Kano. The Federal High Court delivered the sentence following Isa’s guilty plea to a one-count charge of sexual exploitation.
Justice S.M. Shu’aibu presided over the case, finding Isa guilty and imposing a seven-year prison term with no option of a fine. In addition, Isa was ordered to pay N1 million as compensation to the victim.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) stated that Isa committed the offense on multiple occasions in October. Reports indicate that he lured the neighbor’s daughter into his wife’s room and also to an uncompleted building, where he sexually exploited her.
During the trial, the prosecution presented substantial evidence, including Isa’s confessional statement and the victim’s testimony. The court concluded that Isa’s actions were in violation of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015.
The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of such crimes, and it underscores the commitment of the judiciary to protect vulnerable individuals in society.
