ECNETNews, February 24, 2025: A groundbreaking Sandals Beaches Resort is poised to reshape Barbados’ tourism sector, expected to create approximately 3,500 new jobs. This ambitious hotel project in St. Peter, heralded as the largest private investment in Barbados’ history, is set to commence construction later this year on the former sites of Heywood’s Hotel Resort and Almond Resort.
At the recent 48th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government, it was announced that the construction phase will employ 1,700 individuals, with an additional 1,800 permanent positions opening once the resort is operational.
A Tourism Powerhouse for Barbados
This third Sandals property in Barbados is anticipated to generate substantial economic growth, fostering opportunities within the tourism, transportation, entertainment, and food service sectors.
The completion of the project is projected to take about two and a half years. Currently, Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados employ a total of 2,050 staff, and the new resort will notably enhance employment within the tourism industry.
Replacing an Iconic Resort with a New Vision
The new development will take the place of the former Almond Beach Village Resort, which closed in 2012, resulting in over 500 job losses due to various financial challenges. This revitalization is a significant advancement for Barbados’ tourism sector.
Expressing appreciation to the Prime Minister of Barbados for her backing, industry leaders highlighted the long-term advantages this project brings to the local economy and workforce. Although an official opening date has yet to be disclosed, the forthcoming groundbreaking signifies a transformative phase for luxury family tourism in Barbados. Currently, Sandals Barbados employs 1,450 permanent staff, while Sandals Royal Barbados maintains around 600 workers.
