Celtic Initiates Talks for Kieran Tierney’s Return
Celtic Football Club is in discussions with Kieran Tierney regarding a potential return to Parkhead. The club is reportedly engaging with the Scotland international’s representatives about a pre-contract agreement set for the upcoming summer transfer window. Sources indicate that the 27-year-old defender is enthusiastic about the prospect of rejoining the Glasgow side.
Additionally, Celtic is assessing the possibility of a loan move for Tierney during the current transfer window and is expected to reach out to Arsenal for negotiations.
The defender, who is in the final six months of his contract with Arsenal, has been made aware by manager Mikel Arteta that he is free to leave the club. Tierney’s recent season has been marred by injury, missing the initial three months due to a hamstring issue sustained during international duty, with only one appearance in the Carabao Cup since returning to full fitness.
When asked about Tierney’s potential departure this month, Arteta commented, “All the players that are here just want to focus on impacting the team. If something happens, we will assess it.”
Celtic’s current left-back, Greg Taylor, is yet to agree on a new contract as his current deal expires this summer. The club has also secured Barcelona’s Alex Valle on loan for the season.
Interest in Tierney is reportedly high, with various clubs across Europe keeping an eye on the player, who originally joined Arsenal from Celtic in 2019 for approximately £25 million.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has remained non-committal regarding Tierney’s potential return but acknowledged the defender’s legacy at the club. “Kieran was an instrumental part of a really successful period when I was here. His talents then took him on to another challenge in the Premier League,” he stated, emphasizing that any player signings would be confirmed only once finalized.
Having made over 170 appearances and winning five Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic, Tierney’s emotional ties to the club run deep. In a previous interview, he hinted at the possibility of a future return, saying, “I think when a player who loves the club leaves, there’s always that, ‘what if he comes back’, and you can’t rule anything out.”
