In a shocking incident that has erupted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, five murders have sent shockwaves throughout the state. Disturbing scenes unfolded at three crime locations, with one victim found in a chair, surrounded by blood, and a 13-year-old boy discovered dead, surrounded by Rs 500 notes.
The grim developments followed the confession of a 23-year-old man, who walked into a local police station and admitted to killing five family members: his brother, grandmother, uncle, aunt, and a young woman believed to be his girlfriend.
Authorities report that the victims suffered brutal assaults, with the uncle specifically enduring the most severe attack. “It was horrifying to see; identifying the victims was challenging due to the amount of blood,” shared a neighbor, detailing the gruesome conditions of the murder site.
Police officials have characterized the violence as one of the most brutal cases witnessed in Kerala in recent years.
The suspect, identified as Afan, reportedly wielded a hammer and systematically murdered his victims on a Monday. Among the casualties was his younger brother, Afsan, whom he struck multiple times. In a chilling act, Afan scattered money around the slain child’s body.
Latheef, the uncle, was attacked more than 20 times, while Latheef’s wife, Sajitha, was ambushed in the kitchen during her routine task of making tea. Their mother, Shemi, 55, also suffered injuries but has survived and is currently hospitalized.
Afan allegedly began his rampage at the home of his 88-year-old grandmother, Salma Beevi, before targeting his uncle’s family. He lured his brother home under the guise of sharing a traditional Arabian dish, Kuzhimanthi, only to murder him afterward. The young woman, believed to be his girlfriend, also fell victim, with her face left unrecognizable.
Before surrendering to authorities, Afan reportedly attempted to create an explosion by leaving the LPG valve open, revealing a disturbing intent. Witnesses noted his calm demeanor throughout the horrific chain of events, suggesting an unsettling detachment.
Upon his confession, investigators began probing his potential drug abuse history, although details regarding substances or their influence during the crimes remain unverified. This gruesome series of events continues to unfold, leaving the community in shock and demanding answers.
