ATHENS, Ala. — In an unexpected surprise for fans, country music superstar Keith Urban performed a free concert on Friday night at a popular gas station and convenience store in Athens, Alabama, catching the attention of hundreds of attendees.
The spontaneous performance took place at a Buc-ee’s location, roughly 100 miles south of Nashville, and attracted a large crowd eager to enjoy the impromptu show.
Urban shared with the audience during the concert that he had visited the Buc-ee’s a month prior and thought it would be a unique venue for a small concert. “I came down to this Buc-ee’s about a month ago. And when I left, I went, ‘It’d be kind of fun to do a show there,’” he remarked.
Reflecting on the turnout, Urban humorously noted his initial expectations were modest: “I swear to you, I thought maybe 100, 200 people,” as videos captured the much larger audience that gathered.
Fans started arriving hours before the event, creating a buzz in the community. One local resident expressed her excitement, recounting how she learned about the concert while at work: “I heard it on the radio that there was going to be a surprise concert at Buc-ee’s in Athens, and I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
In addition to performing, Urban got hands-on at Buc-ee’s, donning an apron and T-shirt as he assisted behind the food counter, serving barbecue sauce to eager customers.
