Lionsgate has officially announced the development of John Wick: Chapter 5, confirming that the beloved assassin will make his return to the big screen following the ambiguous conclusion of John Wick: Chapter 4.
Latest Update on John Wick 5
At CinemaCon this week, Lionsgate revealed that a fifth installment in the John Wick franchise is in progress. Both star Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski will reprise their key roles, ensuring continuity for the franchise that has captivated audiences.
While hints about the new film were dropped last year, this recent announcement solidifies that the creative team behind the franchise will return. Details on how the story will follow up the fourth film, which left viewers questioning the fate of Wick after a final duel with Caine (portrayed by Donnie Yen), remain under wraps.
“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” stated Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson during the presentation. “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”
The latest entry, John Wick: Chapter 4, released in 2023, was a tremendous success, grossing over $440 million worldwide. Directed by Stahelski, the film saw a shift in screenplay contributors, bringing on Shay Hatten and Michael Finch while franchise creator Derek Kolstad’s role evolved. The ensemble cast included prominent names such as Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgard, Clancy Brown, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Donnie Yen.
Additionally, a spin-off titled Ballerina is set to debut on June 6, 2025, featuring Ana de Armas as a ballerina training to become an assassin. The film will also showcase appearances from Anjelica Huston, the late Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.
